Cortona is the jewel of medieval Tuscan hill towns, ideally situated two hours north of Rome and 90 minutes south of Florence,.
The road up to Cortona winds through olive groves, vineyards, and farmhouses and arrives at the entrance of the town’s ancient walls. The view of the valley below is one of the most spectacular in all of Italy, stretching out to Lake Trasimeno, Montepulciano and beyond.
Along with museums, churches and other historical sights, Cortona offers a wealth of good restaurants, cafes, shops and entertainment. The town has retained its local, historical character without selling out to trinket and souvenir shops that dominate so many other Italian towns.
The home is situated in a small hamlet right outside the city walls in a rural setting. It is a 10 minute walk up the hill to the city center. The building was a convent until the late 1950’s. Although the exterior is several hundred years old, it was restored about 10 years ago.
The house is decorated in modern and antique furnishings and has lots of natural light. Other amenities include free WiFi, parking, and washing machine.
A beautiful enclosed garden with French doors gives way to panoramic views of the city and the entire valley. The enchanting garden features an olive grove, with trees over 200 years old. Casa Sogni has spectacular views of the valley, Lake Trasimeno and the Cortona hillside.
Casa Sogni is spread out over 3 levels. The main entrance opens into a living area, and a modern kitchen and dining room that are connected to the garden. The first-floor bedroom overlooks the garden, while the master bedroom is upstairs in the tower. There is a full bathroom with shower on the main floor and located below the house, in the renovated wine cellar, is the second bathroom with a luxurious hydro-massage bathtub.
Your group of 4 will also have an evening cooking class, which will teach you the intricacies of Italian cooking. There are options for both in-home cooking classes, where our chefs come to our guests accommodations in Cortona, or cooking classes taught in one of our chefs countryside villa right in Cortona (depending on preference and availability). Over the course of several hours, guests learn to prepare a delicious multi-course traditional Tuscan meal, then dine on their efforts. Excellent local wines flow freely during class and the subsequent meal. Cooking classes begin at 4-5 pm and last approximately 3-4 hours concluding with the fabulous meal that has been created! If any of the guests are not chefs per se, they will love sitting back, enjoying the show with a glass of wine!
To prepare you will take home four custom embroidered aprons to get everyone in the mood for great food and great fun. These high-quality, black canvas aprons feature culinary terms and each one is different.
