U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin that like our Marathon scholars have a big dream. The band formed in 1976 when all the members were teenage students at Mount Temple Comprehensive School and had limited musical proficiency. But they had the drive. The drive to improve their craft and bring a message of political and social activism to the world. Within 4 years they had signed with Island Records and debuted their first album. The Joshua Tree, which this tour is named, was first released in 1987 with brought them international stardom with number one singles like “With or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found what I’m Looking For.” In total, U2 have released 13 studio albums and are one of the world's best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 170 million records worldwide. They have won 22 Grammy Awards, more than any other band, and, in 2005, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. Rolling Stone ranked U2 at number 22 in its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".
